Shelf of unread books

'Where to mister?" she yelled at me from a distance, loud enough for everyone to notice.  "Hey, I'm not some kind of a thief, just looking around, grabbing a book to read. That's what they're meant for, right?" "Yea, if you pay for it!" "Of course, here." I paid for the stack of papers bound together in knots of tiny rounds, filled with words that were about to change my life. As I walked home, I was beaming with a sense of refreshment. I hadn't read a book in months, and calling myself an avid reader wasn't true anymore. It was a cold Saturday afternoon, and I was dreaming about a warm coffee in my balcony with my book. However, my footsteps had a different afternoon planned for me. "No, sir. Dalal Street is where I want to go. Could you help me?" I heard an unfamiliar accent from the corner of the street. "Seedha rasta hai" "What?" "It's straight from this turn, approximat...

The Final Word

All along this ride, I was wondering from where to get this conversation started. We both knew this was going to be, in the least, awkward. He tried the usuals for starters, cussing the traffic, stepping on gas more often than required, blaring music be changed every 2 minutes, coming out rough. Such talks are over-rated, you know, a girl and a boy talking through an 'incident'. Much more than a book  they shared that carried a personal bookmark, to a longer than usual eye-to-eye contact in a conversation, a conversation that for most parts was one-sided; she is drunk, check! I've heard this laugh before, I know this silence. I'm still here, with everything left past behind me. I'm still standing right there, with myself. I've got no two ways about this. And it's not going to be you and me. The noises in the car were not louder than those in my head. The wheels just kept rolling. Just as 'breaking ice' is a term for false alarm, I did it!...

How to avoid a best seller, a breaking news and yet another how to

To begin this post with 'we all know..' is crime. The simple netizen I am, I live a simple life, not in a hole, but you'll definitely not find me in the cacophony of loud thought experts. "Where would you find a book on maid retention?" Some words in life are just priceless and the moments are worth sharing. a- the lady thought I was a store attendant - I need to shower on Sundays b- in my trash can Simple as I sound, I'm a very complex person, complex - not complicated. I love my own mess. While at work, dug deep in my thoughts on the next campaign, thinking of the best chocolate makers in the city, checking their website, draw inspiration for a new design idea, bubbling with energy overflow, I block my head over ' how to ensure your website has the best design ', ' how to get the best designs ', ' how to figure where to get the best designs '. The sheer volume of word salad. Words that never seem to make sense, even today,...

Fallibility

Quoting something from a brilliant book I've been reading; Man is fallible, men are less so. An entirely different philosophy about power and what should happen to it when you're confronted with complex, non-routine problems such as what to do when a difficult, potentially dangerous and unanticipated anomaly suddenly appears. The philosophy that you push the power of decision-making out to the periphery and away from the center. You give people the room to adapt.

Going Ballistic

Chop Chop Chop!! "ruchi sssssssssssssssssshhhhh" "What?" "Umm...shhhh" "Well, okay. Whatever." ..and the Chop Chop Chop continues. I was too absorbed into my own thoughts to figure out where the "ssshhh"s have been coming from. For one, I was listening to music o full blast. Of course that meant the rest of the world can do whatever they want and I wouldn't care two hoots. "Say maybe, you're gonna be the one who saves me..." I sing my way to annoy the "ssshhh" ing person. BAh!   Although, apparently all of my actions and words were louder than usual, and more importantly, louder than necessary. For a couple of odd days, mom thought I had some hearing difficulties and this was my way of dealing with it. Heart-wreaking as it was, my colleagues seconded this, with a few attributing it to the constant music blast in my ears.  So, crazy as it was getting,  I resisted the opinions, that turned into judgemen...

Black and White

For reasons unknown, the day started at quite a different note. The local music station screeching of loud afternoon music wasn't enough to keep me awake. To that sunny afternoon, I knew this was a start to an interesting journey - exciting or not - interesting. After many confusing directions to the 'right place' of my new job, I was pleasantly surprised at my choice. For moments to come, I was thankful I wasn't thinking yet. The people that made my place were nice warm people with gentle language and big hearts. That's how things are at first, was a warning from a familiar voice. Well, even if that's true, let me enjoy the days of fake warm big bigheartedness around. All this only to one prick. Someone who just didn't fit my earlier world of a fancy work place. This had to happen, it was after all a fairy tale. So here comes the Evil Witch, the Vampire, The Red Queen from Alice's Wonderland and the White Peacock from Kung Fu Panda's town. N...

Make-out Make-up

With a lot of thoughts getting in my way of writing this, I have finally had the courage to pen down my thoughts. A 'good friend' asked me about times I get anxious. A mental stroll to times I've been really anxious, did not ring any bells. Such questions, by nature, don't deserve honest answers. In this case, I had to be honest, I was the one who initiated the question. To this came a small laugh. I was getting a lot of this these days. There are reasons why girls and guys fight over 'typical girl' - 'typical guy' issue. While both hate to fall in their respective categories, neither will have enough answers to justify their points. I was 'one of such', recent incidents dawned the unknowns of non-physical life structure. Furious as I was, I managed to pull myself together to 'listen' - no medals for guessing, it is a task. Forgetting a lane, misguiding the person who's on the wheel, asking ridiculously emphatic questions wh...
